Commonly called “Water scorpions” for their resemblance to scorpions, due to their raptorial forelegs and the tail like protrusion at the end of the abdomen. There is also another species that resembles a swimming stick-insect. They can be found on all continents except Antarctica. The breath by using a pair of half-tubes locked together to form a siphon by which air is collected at the surface of the water.
